FLASH! Sir Santa has switched from Apache to nginx so now "http://dlcusa.net" gets to the desired page again!!!
Around December 3, the redirection solution in the previous entry (below) went AWOL after Romster himself had been seldom seen in the CRUX scene for many months. Sir Santa and I are working on a permanent solution at best speed, but in the meantime, use "http://dlcusa.net/~dlc" to get to the main page.
Working with Danny Rawlins (aka Romster and Workster on the Freenode #crux IRC channels) and his faithful sidekick, ryuo, the dlcusa.net domain traffic is once again being redirected to "http://dlc.casita.net/~dlc", thus resolving the problem noted November 15, 2018.
It was discovered GoDaddy had made an unannounced change to their handling of DNS forwarding of all "http://dlcusa.net" URLs to "http://dlc.casita.net/~dlc" breaking all interior forwarded links. As they are unwilling to fix this, we have to live with it until I can move this web site to a real dlcusa.net host whenever funds and my copious free time will allow.
I have finally developed "The Virtual Plan 9 Server Cookbook" to release an alpha distribution to the world. It still needs the Overview section but all the recipe sections are finished and should be usuable.
It just dawned on me... It's been 20 years this month since I first installed GNU/Linux and booted it up. There have been exceedingly few days since then I haven't used that operating system. Thank you, RMS and Linus, and everybody else who contributed or will contribute to the gifts that keep on giving.
I am starting today as a W-2 employee of Polito Inc. on a contract position serving the United States' IRS as a developer for a data mining project that in near real-time tracks and analyzes security events of the IT infrastructure. The center is the HP ArcSight ESM package running on HP RHEL Fusion-io blades and Sun Solaris platforms and will include systems administration and Python programming tasks. I am also tasked with an emphasis on the RACF data collected.
The job market being what it is and my need for income being what it is, I have decided to consider long-term IT positions anywhere as long as I can (1) maintain a humble lifestyle for myself near the position in addition to my home in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA and (2) visit my home at least once a month for at least a day.
The Harrisburg negotiations have concluded without reaching agreement so I am fully unencumbered once again in seeking appropriate W-2 or 1099 work as described in the previous updates.
After terminating the previous engagement on July 11, 2011, perseverance has paid off. I am completing negotiations to finalize a two-week 1099 engagement onsite in Harrisburg, PA to begin in April with a possible one-day-a-week long-term extension of unknown duration. I will be providing mainframe systems programming on a VM/VSE/CICS box of thus far unspecified vintage. I am still looking for other suitable 1099 work within a two-hour drive from Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA, that could be a good long-term fit. I will accept a two-hour commute by helicopter on your dime, though.
I started an exclusive six-month mainframe-centric engagement beginning May 31 that will require a lot of time on-site somewhere vaguely between New York City and Allentown, PA. I am not at liberty at this time to pursue and contract for possibly overlapping situations. The client, New York Life Insurance Company, operates two geographically isolated Parallel SysPlex data centers with some long-time z/VM deployments and that my immediate focus is on some very much needed USS security enhancement.
IBM and I somewhat reluctantly agreed the position was not a good fit. I am now looking for suitable work preferably featuring a livable commute from Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA, that could be a good long-term fit.
I accepted a mainframe-centric technical support position (CLAS Level 2 Support) with IBM Corporporation's GTS Division that began November 29, 2010 at their new GDF facility in Dubuque, Iowa, USA. This required my personal relocation to Dubuque the last week-end of November (I could walk to work!) but left Elaine in Maryland to work out how and when she will relocate as well. My last day with Good Shepherd was November 7.
Alas, after almost two decades of providing me dependable
ISP service, in 2013 RadixNet has dropped that product line.
The old site's host at http://www.radix.net is still
supported, but the ~dlc directory is gone and email to
dlc@radix.net
should remain undeliverable.
My replacement email address was
dlc.usa@gmail.com
but during 2022 I opted to subscribe to Zoho.com's email service
so now
dlc.usa@dlcusa.com
is my primary email address (although I still process gmail
messages).
This replacement web site, http://dlcusa.net, is hosted
at http://dlc.casita.net/~dlc and has been
graciously provided by Rick Troth aka Sir Santa on
a zLinux instance he has (you are currently experiencing
how an IBM mainframe serves up web pages using a zLinux
virtual machine within a z/VM system running in a
zEnterprise LPAR!).
